מילות קישור (Linking Words / Connectors) מחברות בין רעיונות במשפט ובין פסקאות. שימוש נכון בהן הוא אחד הגורמים המרכזיים לציון גבוה בחיבור הבגרות.
קטגוריות מילות הקישור העיקריות
מילות קישור מתחלקות לפי הפונקציה שהן ממלאות: ניגוד, סיבה ותוצאה, הוספה, מטרה ורצף. חשוב לדעת לאיזו קטגוריה כל מילה שייכת — ולהשתמש במגוון.

ניגוד: despite / although — ההבדל החשוב
טעות נפוצה מאוד בבגרות: בלבול בין despite (+ שם עצם / צורת -ing) לבין although (+ משפט שלם עם נושא ופועל). לעולם לא כותבים "despite that" בלי שם עצם אחריו.
- Despite the rain, we went for a walk.—למרות הגשם, יצאנו לטיול. (despite + שם עצם)
- Despite being tired, she kept working.—למרות היותה עייפה, היא המשיכה לעבוד. (despite + צורת -ing)
- Although it was raining, we went for a walk.—למרות שגשם, יצאנו לטיול. (although + משפט שלם)
- Even though she was tired, she kept working.—למרות שהיתה עייפה, היא המשיכה לעבוד. (even though + משפט שלם)
- In spite of the difficulties, they succeeded.—למרות הקשיים, הם הצליחו. (in spite of = זהה ל-despite)

despite אינו יכול לבוא לפני משפט שלם. השתמשו ב-although/even though לפני משפט, ו-despite לפני שם עצם או -ing.
✗ However it was raining, we enjoyed the trip.
✓ However, it was raining, yet we enjoyed the trip.
However אינו מחבר שתי פסקאות כמו although. הוא עומד בפני עצמו ומופרד בפסיק.
✗ Because of she was late, we missed the train.
✓ Because she was late, we missed the train. / Due to her lateness, we missed the train.
because of + שם עצם; because + משפט שלם. אסור לכתוב because of + נושא ופועל.
💡 בחיבור הבגרות, נסו לפתוח כל פסקה עם מילת קישור אחרת. בוחנים שמים לב למגוון — שימוש ב-also בלבד בכל הפסקאות לא מרשים. שלבו: Moreover, Furthermore, Nevertheless, In addition ועוד.
